The Amos Kent Award is presented to an outstanding beginning official (1 to 4 years of service), who exemplifies the following qualities:

- Knowledge and application of the rules
- Strives to improve to highest level in the sport of volleyball
- Fair and Consistent
- Respected and willing to work with other officials
